Sustainable Stories: Creating Networks for a Green Future

Palazzo Riso - Regional Museum of Contemporary Art, 08/07/2024

Clothes, accessories, and jewelry are integral parts of our culture. They speak about us, date our lives with their styles, and remind us of life habits, passions, places, and feelings.

However, today the textile industry, while being one of the most profitable on the planet, is also one of the most polluting. These are some of the insights that led Albamedia to involve industry stakeholders in a talk titled: Ethical Sustainability: Creating Networks for a Green Future, in 2023.

To do this, Albamedia, the company founded by siblings Gioia and Alberto Gange, who are also the publishers of Zoemagazine and Oplà Magazine, chose to leverage the collective Trame Siciliane. This brand was created 11 years ago to unite Sicilian producers who operate with a green vision. Thanks to the experience of previous editions, the 2024 project unfolds in three directions: EDUCATIONAL / TALK / PORTFOLIO REVIEW and opens up to a plurality of spectators, transforming into Sustainable Stories, a digital format that also gathers testimonies from the involved Sicilian designers.

At Palazzo Riso - Regional Museum of Contemporary Art, a talk will feature Evelina De Castro, Director of Museo Riso; Sara Maino Sozzani, Creative Director of the Sozzani Foundation; Maurizio Cellura, Director of the Center for Ecological Transition and Sustainability at the University of Palermo; Clementina Cordero di Montezemolo, Founder of YOLKTM; Camilla Fasoli, Art Director of Vimar 1991, a company acquired in 2020 by Maison Chanel for the development of circular economy projects; Eileen Akbaraly, Founder of Made For a Woman; and Lily Clempson, Founder of Lilyeve.

Additionally, it will be an opportunity to discuss the project undertaken by Albamedia, in collaboration with YOLKTM, to raise awareness among students aged 10-14. This project involves schools in creating critical awareness about purchasing.

The idea behind the project is that behind the consumer object, there is not only a production process but also a creative design phase where society, culture, and art interact. Involved in the experience with the students are Grazia's Fashion Editor Carlotta Marioni, Flo's Editor-in-Chief Elisabetta Barracchia, and Giglio group, which has allowed viewing its vintage archive along with a selection of sustainable garments.

Official greetings will be presented by Francesco Scarpinato, Regional Councillor for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity; Edmondo Tamajo, Regional Councillor for Productive Activities; and Giampiero Cannella, Councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Palermo.

On Tuesday, July 9, at 10:30 AM, at the Ducrot Spaces of the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo, there will be the Portfolio Review Day focused on the sustainable collections of Abapa students, directed by Professor Sergio Daricello, who will present their creations to Sara Maino Sozzani.
